Central City and Lina Dorthinusdaughter

Here we are driving out of Central City - going to find Linas old house. We are in The Rocky Mountains - not far from Aspen and Vail - places for those who love skiing!

We just turned left on Highway 119 ............

..........entering Apex Vally Road and The Apex Ghosttown

Here is Linas house - it was hers when she lived here in Apex, Gilphin County, Colorado

This is the front porch........ Don't you think that the trees and the hills and the surroundings look like it's in Rendalen, Hedmark, Norway?

Here we are - in front of Linas house!

This is The Rocky Mountains - it's a brilliant view! I do think the "mountain" is Mount Evans - 14264 feet.

This is the entrance to The Central City Cemetery ................

....................and this is how it looks like - wild colorful flowers - birches and headstones.

Here she is - Lina Dorthinusdaughter Goldberg- my Great Grandmothers halfsister - born in Rendalen County, Hedmark, Norway. Lina was born th 18. November 1865 in Sjølisand, Ytre Rendalen - she has one sister - Anne Dorthinusdaughter and ten half"siblings" - five brothers and five sisters. Lina emigrated to The United States in 1885 - married a young Swedish boy named John and they had seven children. Lina and John settled down in Gilpin County where he was a gold miner. Lina died in October 1924 and was burried at Central City Cemetery in Colorado. I did put the Norwegian flag - with my written e-mail adress - on Linas headstone. Rest in peace, Lina.

Here are Jennifer, my brother and Nichlasen - in front of Central City's Court House. Lina is Jennifers Great Grandmother. She flew from North Carolina to Central City to meet my brother, Nichlasen and me - Thank you Jennifer.

Something for my scrapbooking papers!

You see the missing book - this is the vault in The Court House - we could borrow as many book we needed - one at one time - no gloves and we got the most important pages xeroxed!

From Rock Springs to Central City

It's still sunny in Wyoming - and we're still driving east - trying to reach Central City in Colorado tonight. We had to made a stop - probably filling our! Ford Flex with gas and ourselves with some food - there are truckers and trailers all over - serving whoever. This little chapel was for the drivers - I liked that - we all need a place thats just "ours"

The small black "dots" are either cows or bulls - there're lots of them in Wyoming. You see the "snowfence" - it's probably windy during wintertime - so they put theese fences up along Interstate 80 and the road are snowfree - in a way! I don't know - I have'nt been there in January or February!

In Cheyenne we thurned south from Interstate 80 into Interstate 25 driving into The State of Colorado. My first sight of the land where Lina Dorthinusdaughter settled down.

This is Denver - we just past through...............................

............ending up here - Denvers Bass Pro Shops - I like the sign above the front door! Welcome fishermen, hunters and other liars!

It's impossible to explain how big - how many items - how huge this store is. You have to visit it by yourself! I did find this pink bow and arrow - something for all the pink scrappers in the world.

This picture is not good - but it's the only one I have - it shows the entrance to both Central City and Golden.

Okay - this is it - the main entrance to Central City and Linas American home county. I'll tell more about Lina and Jennifer later.

FIFTY............FINALLY!!

Last Sunday I turned FIFTY! It is not depressing at all - actually it's a relief. Now I can consentrate on beeing in my fifties - not trying to avoid them. I did celebrate my birthday at Evja - my mothers country house. Here she is togheter with her grandson - my son - in the driveway wishing everybody welcome!

This bouquet I got from my co-workers and my boss - togheter with a beautiful shawl and some wonderful blue jewelry - Thank you so much - I just love it!

It was very cold and it was rain in the air - that's why we had a party tent - where is the summer - it's June!?! It was barbecue - bløtkake / layercake and pea soup on the menu. And lots of wool plaids - it was cold!

And the view - the marshy bay- this time from my brothers cabin - enjoy!

Today it's only 18 days untill our trip starts - the trip to The United States. We're driving straight to Central City in Colorado after Carson City in Nevada.

Sorry Utah - see you later - I have an appointment in Gilpin County. Her name is Lina - she is my Great Grandmothers - Emilie Dorthea Dorthinusdaughters - half sister.

And then it's over - just driving through Nebraska - Iowa and Illinois.
We have already started to plan our next trip to the promised land - driving from New York to the states in the south - like North Carolina and Tennessee................................
