It Snowed Yesterday...

...and it's rainig today - luckily - I'm not a big fan of snow.

This picture are my Uncle Johan, my Aunt Randi and my mother Grethe.  I think my Grandfather Simon Andreas took the picture in 1941.  They are skiing on the farmers land opposite my Grandfathers Store in Kaffegata at Flisa.

I have painted all the letters in white trying to get some "icy" look.  The musictones are painted silver - crackled - and painted white.  All the flowers are white, and embossed with silver - I like that.  The frame are corrugated cardboard, I teared it and I enbossed it with a cranberry look.  Most of the stuff are handmade - I buy usually scrapbookstuff in "white" - pearls in boxes - and so on - then I'll give "it" all a "bendichtemakeover"

Today is cleaning day - painting doors day - getting my house together day - and I need a lot of days like today.  Hoping to get rid of all the paintboxes before Christmas - this year.

Høstmarked i Vikingskipet

This anually thing - this Marked filled with used and antique stuff for us who collect.  It happend yesterday at Vikingskipet - The Ship that were build for The Olympics of 1994 here in Hamar.

I bought this - this Singer sewing machine - for my scrapping!   It's old and I have to bring the machine to someone who really can give it a makeover!  It's cute, isn't it?

Last Night Was Halloween

Happy Halloween!  It's Sunday and the weather is grey.....it's snowing soon - and I don't like that at all!  Nichlasen is spending the week-end in Oslo - some party going on - enjoy!

In June 2006 was the first time I wrote a missing people link at DIS Norge - looking for Lina Dorthinusdaughter and her family in The USA.  This summer I found Lina - and her American Family - lucky me! 

Lina married - I don't know when or were - John Goldberg from Sweden, born 1858.  John went to Sweden, without Lina, late 1915 - 1919, I think, visiting old family.  Unfortunately he died during his visit and was burried at this grave yard.  

So my questions are - where in Sweden is this beautiful church and are there anyone out there that have some information about John Goldberg?  I sure would be glad!

A Grey Sunday in September

Hello - then I've been scrapping!  Last spring - Scraporama Stortreff - had a huge crop and I was there - of course.  Naboen - she's a wonderful scrapper - had made this basic papers and fabrics for a layout - I attended one of her classes at the crop and finished the layout now!

This is my mothers aunt - Ester Johansdaughter Holter Opsahl - on her - I'm not sure, but I do belive it is - Confirmation day.  Her family was Methodist and therefor I can't find the exactly date in any Norwegian Churchbook.  But if any - out there - know where I can find dates like that - I sure would be glad.

This little tag - yes thanks again to my Mother - she is an amazing collector - this is Aunt Esters handwriting - cute?

I usually buy white or beige scrapcstuff - so all the flowers you see on this page - they have had a makeover by me!  I've been using Wild Plum - from Ranger Ink - it's an Alcohol Ink that I had on a little spray bottle with some water.  Likewise did the leaves get a makeover - I've used Glimmer Mist's Cinnamon from MyTattered Angels.

Thank you America

This was my birthdaygift to me - this wonderful trip we had. We did Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa and Illinois. We did three time zones. We did 6465 american miles - 10502 kilometers in the most comfortable and luxurious car, our! Ford Flex. And to My Mother, thank you - for letting us having a car like that - you should have been with us! We meet our cousins in Montana, Washington, California and Colorado. Thank you all for making this trip wonderful. You are ALL invited to Norway - welcome. This picure is taken in Keystone - in the Black Hills region in South Dakota. So - thank you America - we'll meet again!

The Last Day on Interstate 80

The last day with driving the our! Ford Flex. From York in Nebraska State to Aurora in Illinois State - 594 miles - 950 kilometers. The sky is blue - it is warm and the Interstate 80 has just turned to 10 lanes as we drive into Des Moines.

Nebraska and Iowa - fields with corn and windmills - quite different from Stangelandet.

Detta hadde vært noe det Truls? It's not the Norwegian way - but we can always dream.

The Mississippi River - we past her twice - the first day heading west - and the last day heading east.

After spending our last night in The USA in Aurora, Iowa we drove the last few miles to O'Hare - the international Airport in Chicago, Iowa. The last billboard - well it had to be McDonalds!

This is the most boring airport I have ever been to. Long hallways - white walls and nothing to shop - so I took the last dollar with me home! Sorry O'Hare!

Thanks to my brother and thanks to my son - I had a terrific and wonderful time with you two guys! We'll try to do it again in three years! Like The South of America. Thank you!

Going east on Interstate 80 - Nebraska

This is the road to Golden - the last place Lina lived. It's Thursday and we are turning our! Ford Flex east - but first I had to visit a scrapbookstore - and I did! Spent a lot of money - more about that later - so we had to drive through Cheyenne one more time and then we turned east.

This is a looong train - a very looong train. We saw a lot of them together with all the truckers and trailers along the road.

This is Nebraska - flat - green and sunny! We were lucky!

Pumping oil - the American way!

They just started her in Ottestad too - the treshing - - this is 16th of July - Nebraska

I kind of liked the windmills - they're not beautiful - but they're making good power with wind - well here's one windmill coming along the road - biiig!

Nebraska are the land of corn - we saw hundred of acres with corn - nice to know when having them in my salad!

This is the biggest grain elevator in Gothenburg, Nebraska.

Central City and Lina Dorthinusdaughter

Here we are driving out of Central City - going to find Linas old house. We are in The Rocky Mountains - not far from Aspen and Vail - places for those who love skiing!

We just turned left on Highway 119 ............

Here is Linas house - it was hers when she lived here in Apex, Gilphin County, Colorado

This is the front porch........ Don't you think that the trees and the hills and the surroundings look like it's in Rendalen, Hedmark, Norway?

This is The Rocky Mountains - it's a brilliant view! I do think the "mountain" is Mount Evans - 14264 feet.

....................and this is how it looks like - wild colorful flowers - birches and headstones.

Here she is - Lina Dorthinusdaughter Goldberg- my Great Grandmothers halfsister - born in Rendalen County, Hedmark, Norway. Lina was born th 18. November 1865 in Sjølisand, Ytre Rendalen - she has one sister - Anne Dorthinusdaughter and ten half"siblings" - five brothers and five sisters. Lina emigrated to The United States in 1885 - married a young Swedish boy named John and they had seven children. Lina and John settled down in Gilpin County where he was a gold miner. Lina died in October 1924 and was burried at Central City Cemetery in Colorado. I did put the Norwegian flag - with my written e-mail adress - on Linas headstone. Rest in peace, Lina.

Here are Jennifer, my brother and Nichlasen - in front of Central City's Court House. Lina is Jennifers Great Grandmother. She flew from North Carolina to Central City to meet my brother, Nichlasen and me - Thank you Jennifer.

You see the missing book - this is the vault in The Court House - we could borrow as many book we needed - one at one time - no gloves and we got the most important pages xeroxed!

From Rock Springs to Central City

It's still sunny in Wyoming - and we're still driving east - trying to reach Central City in Colorado tonight. We had to made a stop - probably filling our! Ford Flex with gas and ourselves with some food - there are truckers and trailers all over - serving whoever. This little chapel was for the drivers - I liked that - we all need a place thats just "ours"

The small black "dots" are either cows or bulls - there're lots of them in Wyoming. You see the "snowfence" - it's probably windy during wintertime - so they put theese fences up along Interstate 80 and the road are snowfree - in a way! I don't know - I have'nt been there in January or February!

In Cheyenne we thurned south from Interstate 80 into Interstate 25 driving into The State of Colorado. My first sight of the land where Lina Dorthinusdaughter settled down.

This is Denver - we just past through...............................

............ending up here - Denvers Bass Pro Shops - I like the sign above the front door! Welcome fishermen, hunters and other liars!

It's impossible to explain how big - how many items - how huge this store is. You have to visit it by yourself! I did find this pink bow and arrow - something for all the pink scrappers in the world.

This picture is not good - but it's the only one I have - it shows the entrance to both Central City and Golden.

Okay - this is it - the main entrance to Central City and Linas American home county. I'll tell more about Lina and Jennifer later.
