Håndkjerrepionerene

Today Varg and I walked through Åkersvika Naturreservat towards Norsk Utvandrermuseum.  It's a small place with some old houses and a church brought to Norway from USA.  I'll tell more abot the houses and the church another time.  Today I want to show you Håndkjerrepionerene from Salt Lake City in Utah.

The main Håndkjerrepionerene / Handcart pioneers are placed at Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.  It's made by a Norwegian, Torleif S. Knaphus, who emigrated to The Promised Land in 1906.  The statue in Norway is a copy of the one he made in 1924.  The big one - the one on Temple Square was made in 1947.  I'm sorry we didn't have time visiting Salt Lake City last year - but I drove through The City - but next time...

If you ever have time to stop near Hamar and Utvandrermuseet - do it!

Pictures taken in April this year - enjoy your travel...

A Sunday in October 2010

I tried to blog everyday - it didn't work out - sorry!  I'm not a person who have time and energy to blog and talk and show pictures everyday - I kind of admire those who do.

Where September went I don't know - it was here and now it's history!  Fall is here - we do have around 40 Farenheit degrees - the birches are turning yellow and then red and then their naked - and then wintertime.  I do the same as the Østerdalsbears - I "go to sleep in winter lair".  I'm not a winterperson - it's getting stronger every year - this thing against wintertime.  It's beautiful here in Norway - it's white snow and clear blue sky and it's freeezing cold!  I don't know why that's so good?  I like it warm and sunny and I like my lawn staying green!

This time of the year here in Norway - proably many other places too - there are moose hunting - and many counties are kind of shut down because "everybody" are in the woods hunting European moose and having a blast!  They say - I don't know - I've never tried it.  Both my Grandfathers - Einar Karlotsen and Simon Andreas Johanson - did hunting - moose hunting.

I usually buy half a moose calf - it's delicious meat - try it!  Here's Varg getting his part of the moose.

Have a grat Sunday - Thank you for visiting this blog og mine - and do not forget to enjoy...

2.th of August

Hello - I have learned a new word to today.  I've used it many times - I even have it in my name - but never tried to learn it.  Before today.  It's the word patronymic - name derived from that of a father or ancestor.  Like mine, Oladaughter - my fathers first name was Ola.  But it's hard to say - patronymic.

Today I will Congratulate
Syverine Amine Nilsdatter born 1862 Nordre Osen
She lived in Nordre Osen, she was my Great Grandfathers - Per - oldest sister and she died in childbed fever, only 18 years old.  The word is that she was not allowed to to marry the one she loved which was her boychilds father.  She mourned to death.  Sad story.

Olaf Embretson Engebretson born 1886 Åsnes
He lived in Hof and Åsnes and he was a younger brother to my Great Grandmother - Anne Marie.

This is the marshy bay where my mother has her cabin in Nordre Osen - beautiful?

Then we turned northbound on Highway 89 - 191 through Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park.

Geysers nearby Old Faithful Geyser - Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming.  It was great to see.  Later on the same day we saw a grizzly behind some trees and The American Eagle and lots of bisons.

An ordinary Thuesday in June

Last June - 2009 - we started our fantastic trip in The USA.  This is the first stop - and of course we had to try American Wendy's burgers!  Interstate 90 - north westbound - from Chicago, Illinois.

Then we turned northbound and into The State of Wisconsin - still driving Interstate 90 - we had some rain - me driving - that was heavy!

Some hours!! after we left Stangelandet and Norway - we could point our noses West - this is Minnesota - plenty of Norwegians emigrated to this State.

I did find one of my Grandmothers - Mimi - brothers; Asbjørn Martinson Langerud - in Marsh, Minnesota.

Have a nice evening - and do not forget to enjoy...

Whitsuntide

I did this layout a long time ago.  It's my fathers mother and his aunt.  They both lived at Flisa in Åsnes and they had four children, each.  They even died before they turned 70 years old.  But I got to know them - a tiny bit - just for a few years - I wonder what if I had known them better - would I've then been doing geneology? Or... who knows... anyway I'm glad I met them.  Very...

My Grandmother, Mimi Martinsdaughter Langerud Nymoen, born 20. August 1898 at Snapholt, Hof in Solør, Åsnes County, Hedmark.

My Grandmothers sister, Margit Ovidia Martinsdaughter Langerud Linna, born 6. February 1903 at Flissundet, Åsnes County, Hedmark.

Margit married Olav Syversen Linna 12. July 1923 in Åsnes Church.  They got four children, Syver Asbjørn, Ole Martin, Eva Marie and Bjørn Harald.

Margit Ovida died at Flisa 17. February 1971 and her housbond Syver died 6. November 1941.  They are both burried at Åsnes Curch Cemetary.

My Grandmother Mimi married my Grandfather Einar Karlotson Nymoen 31. October 1925.  My Grandfather, Einar was born 4. September 1898 at Råberget, Hof in Solør, Åsnes County, Hedmark.

Mimi and Einar had four children, Marit, Inger Marie, Ola Martin and Eivind.  Marit and my father are not with us anymore, Marit died 4. May 1995 and my father passed away 19. March 2005.

Mimi died 24. Februar 1965 and Einar died 1. September 1986.  They are burried at Åsnes Church Cemetary.

Enjoy your day...I have to pick up Nichlasen, he's coming by train from Oslo...he dosn't have a drivers license...

17 mai 2010

Hipp Hipp Hurra! It's Norways Birthday.

Today is Norways Birthday.  Our Constitution Day.  Congratulation!
"A day to honor freedom, our rich heritage and our common bond as citizens of this great country"  I borrowed this sentence - It says it all.

Nichlasen is in Oslo with his father - Varg and I are home alone - doing nothing!  This is a day to reflect over our freedom and to celebrate.  We the Norwegian people have a lot to be proud of and to remember.

Today is The day when everybody! talks about the weather - here on HedEmarken it's grey with some ray of sunshine - it's 13 Celsius pluss and 55 Farenheit.

We do have bunads / national costumes from nearly every part of Norway.  This is the Solør Odal Bunad.  Even though I don't live in Solør anylonger - I'm Solung in my heart!  So it was easy to choose which bunad I should wear!

This layout I did some years ago. It's not the layout you should focus on - but the picture.

It's my aunt Randi waving the Norwegian Flag in Kaffegata - The Street of Flisa - on 17th of May 1941.  My Grandfather Simon commanded his children out in the snow - with the flag - and he did take some marvelous pictures this day - even tough The World War II was going on in Norway.

The handsome young man is my uncle Johan - he passed away in 2004.  You can see the famouc birches in Kaffegata behind my mother Grethe.

This is my Grandfather - Simon Andreas Johannesson Holter - 1898-1969.  He dared in 1941.  I think he belived in freedom for everyone, he was strict - very! and he was conservative...I think.

Have a nice day - where ever you are and enjoy...Hipp Hipp Hurra!
